Ranchi : It’s celebration time in Jharkhand. News that local boy Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be conferred with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award has been greeted with jubilation across the state.
The Indian One Day and T20 skipper arrived at his home town Ranchi Monday. When he landed at Birsa Munda airport he received news of the award. Talking to reporters he said: “The award is a source of inspiration for me. It is a proud moment for me.”
Dhoni then drove to Deori temple which is around 60 km from Ranchi to offer prayers.
Reacting to the news of the award Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda told reporters Tuesday: “Dhoni deserves the award. In a short career Dhoni has made the country proud.”
Jharkhand government had last year conferred the Jharkhand Ratna award to Dhoni.
