Lucknow : Thirty children were seriously injured when the roof of their dilapidated school collapsed in Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur district, an eventuality parents had been fearing for quite a while.
Five of the students of the Jansewa Shikshan Sansthan in Rehra Bazaar in Balrampur, about 200 km from here, are in critical condition after the accident Tuesday evening.
“School authorities did not bother to inform police even after the tragedy. But locals contacted us after hearing the screams of the students,” said a police official.
He said parents had registered several complaints with the principal of the school, demanding that the building be renovated urgently.
The principal and other school officials managed to escape soon after the incident.
