Chennai (Tamil Nadu): The Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) has welcomed the Delhi High Court tribunal order lifting the ban on Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).
In her 267 page judgement Justice Geeta Mittal has pointed out that the material provided by the Home Ministry in support of the ban was insufficient to justify the ban, says a statement by TMMK.
The tribunal’s judgement has wiped out to a considerable extent the stigma of terrorism slapped on the face of the India Muslim youth, says M.H. Jawahirullah, president of TMMK. SIMI has been a favourite whipping boy of certain sections of Media as well as the official machinery whenever any act of terrorism is committed in the country. However the Home Ministry could not provide any semblance of evidence to prove the involvement of SIMI in terrorist activities in the recent past.
The judgement of the tribunal lifting the ban on SIMI has proved that the investigating agencies and a section of the Media have only been chasing a mirage of terrorism in the name of SIMI, says the release. This is the reason for the failure of the investigating agencies to book the real culprits in several terror attacks enacted from Ajmer to Bangalore.
The Tribunal’s judgement has once again proved the independence of the Indian Judiciary. Mrs. Justice Geeta Mittal deserves kudos for keeping the unblemished character of our country’s judiciary at the highest helm through her unbiased judgement, the release said.
