Kolkata : There was a blaze in the first floor of the West Bengal government secretariat – Writer’s Building – Thursday morning, in which a large number of documents were destroyed before it was put out after nearly two hours.
“The fire broke out at the municipal affairs, refugee rehabilitation and fire brigade departments in the E-block of Writer’s Buildings first floor at around 6.30 a.m.” a fire department official said.
The officials said the cause of the blaze was yet to be ascertained. But they suspected a short circuit.
At least 12 fire tenders were used to bring the blaze under control.
Officials said important documents were destroyed in the fire.
