The announcement of the committee came minutes after the all-party meeting convened in the national capital by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ended where political parties made a joint appeal to agitators for suspending the agitation so that the dialogue process could begin.

The committee comprising former J&K Chief Secretary S. S. Bloeria, vice-chancellor of Jammu University Amitabh Mattoo, retired judge of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Justice G D Sharma and Chief Executive Officer of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board B B Vyas would make a fresh approach to the agitating group for ending the stalemate that has affected normal life in Jammu region.

The Samiti had earlier spurned the offer of Governor for direct talks and visit to the camp site.

Reacting to the fresh offer, convener of SASS Leela Karan Sharma told PTI that it would ascertain what would the new committee be offering to address to the sentiments of the people of Jammu region.

“We need to know the answer as to what was the problem in handing over the land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board,” Sharma said.
