AFC Challenge Cup final postponed due to heavy rains

By Abhishek Roy, IANS,

Hyderabad : Heavy rains for the past 24 hours has forced the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to postpone Sunday’s final and third place match of the AFC Challenge Cup football.

Both Gachibowli Stadium, which was to host the final between India and defending champions Tajikistan, and the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, venue for the third place match, were unplayable.

The AFC Challenge Cup Organising Committee inspected the venues Saturday and found the pitch unplayable after incessant rains deteriorated the ground surface.

AFC will conduct an inspection of Delhi’s Ambedkar Stadium Sunday before announcing a fresh date and venue for both the matches.

Both these matches would be played Wednesday, if AFC finds the Ambedkar Stadium suitable to host the games.

North Korea will face Myanmar in the third-place playoff.
