German electricity export set to break new record this year: daily

By IRNA,

Berlin : Germany is expected to export more electricity abroad this year than any time before, the daily Berliner Zeitung newspaper said in its Saturday edition. According to the report, the export surplus in the first half of the year is to hover around 14. 4 terawatt hours which corresponds to the annual production of two nuclear power plants.

Last year, the export overflow stood at merely 10.8 terawatt hours during the same corresponding period.

The last record year dates back to 2006 when the export excess reached 19.6 terawatt hours.

The electricity export boom is taking place at a time when several German atomic power plants have either been completely or periodically shut down because of technical problems, Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel was quoted saying.
