Jehad al-Wazeer, head of the Palestinian Monetary Authority (PMA), expected that Israel will allow the entry of the cash to Gaza very soon” so the banks will be able to pay full salaries for the employees.”

On Thursday, the banks started to pay salaries for the employees but many of them received part of the monthly payment. Al-Wazeer says the banks have not enough Shekels in cash.

Israeli banks severed ties with the Palestinian banks in Gaza last year after Hamas took control of the coastal strip by force. Al-Wazeer added that the Gaza banks sent about 40 million Shekels of paper currency to Israel to get new currency and Israel widened the crisis by not sending the whole new currency at once.

The PA employees in Gaza are paid by West Bank government, headed by Salam Fayyad, while they don’t go work since Hamas controls the whole strip.

If any PA employee was reported to be working with Hamas administration, Fayyad government cuts his salary immediately.

Hamas government depends on local tax revenues and the money that it gets via donations to pay for its employees.
