Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh police chief Vikram Singh Tuesday held a meeting with top bank officials here and discussed steps to curb the fake currency menace in the state.
The meeting was arranged after a large scale fake currency racket was unearthed Aug 4 in the State Bank of India (SBI) Domariyaganj branch in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Singh urged all the banks to follow the auditing and inspection guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) strictly.
“Special vigil should be kept on banks located in the border districts and the police should be immediately informed if any suspicious activity or person is noticed,” Singh said.
Singh also said that efforts should be made to spread awareness among the general public on identifying fake notes.
“We should make efforts to form a team comprising various wings of the police and currency experts from banks to stop the menace,” he said.
