Tbilisi : A US Air Force cargo plane loaded with humanitarian supplies has touched down in Georgia, hours after President George W. Bush promised the embattled country support.
The C-17 Galaxy landed in Georgia Wednesday, the first in a series of assistance deliveries by US military forces in a humanitarian effort designed to show “solidarity” with the Georgian people, Bush said earlier.
Russian armoured columns at the end of the six-day conflict moved deep into Georgian territory and destroyed Georgian military installations, despite Moscow’s commitment to return its forces to its own territory.
The US Air Force and Navy would support Georgia by delivering humanitarian assistance, Bush said.
