VHP activists block train as part of nationwide agitation

Lucknow : VHP activists stopped a train and blocked traffic in the state capital Wednesday as part of their nationwide ‘chakka jam’ agitation over the Amarnath land row.

About 20 to 25 VHP activists stopped the Bagh Express a short distance away from the Badshah Nagar railway station. The train proceeded onwards after the police intervened, GRP sources said.

A group of 40 to 50 activists blocked traffic at the busy Husainganj crossing for about half an hour and police had to use mild force to get the road cleared, police said adding that about 10 activists were taken into custody.

Meanwhile, Sangh Parivar activists blocked the New Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi express near Agra this morning for about 45 minutes.

The volunteers staged a dharna on the tracks near Rohta drain and placed wooden planks on it to halt the train, Shyam Bhadauria, a VHP leader said.

The train was stopped at 8:35 am shortly before it left Agra cantonment railway station for Jhansi.
