Yemen receives Saudi’s assistance for clearing mines

Sana’a : Yemen has received here a grant of USD 500,000 from Saudi Arabia as assistance for the clearing of mines in the country.

The amount was handed over by Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Ali al-Hamdan during his meeting with the chairman of the National Mine Action Committee (NMAC) Qasem Ahmed al-Ajam.

Al-Ajam hailed the Saudi assistance to Yemen’s efforts to clean different areas from mines, affirming the strong relations between the two countries.

Al-Ajam also held talks here with the resident coordinator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pratibha Mehta and the Country Director of the UNDP Silva Ramashandran on the cooperation between Yemen and the UNDP in carrying out the national programme for the clearing of mines in the country.

The meeting dealt with the future of the national programme and its aid in the coming period in addition to reviewing the preparations for the meeting to be held next November to evaluate the national programme to be attended by representatives of donor countries.
