EC constitutes election tribunals for local polls

Dhaka : Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) has constituted 13 election tribunals for hearing and resolving the appeals of contesting candidates against the official results of the four city corporations and nine pourasabha polls held on August 4.

An official handout said here today that the appeals should be submitted before the tribunal within 30 days of the gazette notification of the polls’ results. The EC published gazette of the results on August 12.

The tribunals in four city corporations have been constituted with the following joint district judges:

M Ashraful Islam Khan for Rajshahi City Corporation, M Zia Haider for Khulna City Corporation, Wahiduzzaman Sikdar for Barisal City Corporation and Sheikh Faruk Hossain for Sylhet City Corporation.

The tribunal for Noahata pourasabha has been constituted with Joint District Judge of Rajshahi M Ashraful Islam Khan, for Dupchachia pourasabha with Joint District Judge of Bogra M Abu Ahsan Habib, for Chuadanga pourasabha with Joint District Judge of Chuadanga Mohammad Mohiduzzaman and for Sreepur pourasabha with Joint District Judge of Gazipur Abdur Razzak Mia.

The EC constituted tribunal for Manikganj pourashaba with Joint District Judge of Manikganj M Shamsuzzaman, for Fulbaria with Joint District Judge of Mymensingh Zebun Nesa, for Shariatpur pourasabha with Joint District Judge M Azizur Rahman, for Golapganj pourasabha with Joint District Judge of Sylhet M Akhteruzzaman and for Sitakunda pourasabha with Joint District Judge of Chittagong Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury.
