Patna : A man accused of murder committed suicide in a Bihar court when he was brought there for a hearing Thursday, police sources said.
Kanhaiya Mahto, in his 30s, accused of murdering his wife in 2006, committed suicide on the premises of the sub-divisional court of Barh in Patna district by hanging himself in the toilet of the court complex.
“Mahto committed suicide in the court’s toilet by using his cotton towel, locally known as gamcha,” a police source said.
Mahto was lodged in the divisional jail of Barh, about 50 km from here. He was a resident of a village in Begusarai district.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and begun investigation into the case.
However, family members of Mahto alleged that police torture forced him to commit suicide.
