The Pakistanis opened fire at around 2 a.m. Indian troops did not retaliate but a protest would be lodged with the Pakistani government, the officials said.

The firing came less than 24 hours after Pakistani troops fired mortars from across the Line of Control (LoC)- the de-facto border between India and Pakistan – in Saujian area of Poonch district.

Indian troops retaliated Thursday and the exchange of fire lasted about 20 minutes but there were no casualties.

The November 2003 ceasefire agreement has been violated over 20 times by the Pakistani troops, Indian officials said.
