Atwal moves up to 17th at Xerox Classic Golf

Rochester (New York) : Arjun Atwal made a significant move up from overnight 35th to tied 17th after the second round at the Xerox Classic on the Nationwide Tour.

Atwal brought home a second round of two-under 68 that put his total at three-under 137 in the $600,000 event Friday.

Atwal, lying 28th on the Money List and needing to come inside top-25 to play the full PGA Tour next year, had three birdies on the front nine and just one bogey on the backstretch. He birdied the third, sixth and eighth holes and dropped a shot on 14th.

Brendon de Jonge fired a six-under-par 64 in the second round and took the lead at the halfway stage. De Jonge’s 9-under 131 is two strokes better than Bob May (69) and three in front of Jeff Gallagher (65), David Hearn (66), Garrett Osborn (66), Dave Schulz (69).
