Two police officials suspended after VHP leader’s killing

Bhubaneswar : Orissa suspended two police officials, including the Kandhamal district superintendent of police Sunday, a day after a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader and four others were killed.

District superintendent of police Nikhil Kanodia and Madhusudan Jena Samant, the officer in charge of the Tumudibandh police station, were placed under suspension for dereliction of duty, an official in the Chief Minister’s Office told IANS.

Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, a member of the central advisory committee of the VHP, was killed at his Jalespata ashram, some 340 km from here in the communally sensitive Kamdhamal district, with four others at 7.30 p.m. Saturday after more than 30 suspected Maoists rebels opened fired on them.
