Of the six members in Rangasamy’s cabinet, five are reportedly opposing him along with at least three other party legislators, sources said.

Though no clear-cut indications are available on whether Rangasamy will be asked to step down by Ravi, separate lobbies are at work to elect either speaker R. Radhakrishnan or former chief minister R. Vaidyalingam as the next chief minister.

The latter has been accused of bribing a legislator and the Central Bureau of Investigation probed the allegations against him.

The relentless assault on Rangasamy began following prosecution of ministers E. Valsaraj and M.O.H.F. Shahjahan for misappropriating funds by the police which is under the direct control of the chief minister.
