In her one-page letter in Hindi, Mayawati focuses on the prevailing menace of female foeticide and its impact on male-female ratio in the age of group of 0-6 years, the official added.

“It is quite heartening that Behenji (Mayawati) has called upon all the public representatives of the state to unite against the social menace,” Mohammad Tahir Khan, Bahujan Samaj Party MP from Sultanpur, told IANS on phone.

We must all unite to weed out the social menace that has been prevailing in our society since ages, he added.

“In her letter, Mayawati has expressed concern over the present sex ratio of the state,” an official said.

The average sex ratio in the state is 898 females per 1,000 males.

The ratio in several districts, including Hardoi, Shahjahanpur, Badaun and Etah, was even lower. In these districts there are less than 850 females per 1,000 males, officials said.
