Pakistan condemns firing on U.S. consulate vehicle

Islamabad : Pakistan on Tuesday condemned the firing on a U.S. Consulate vehicle in northwestern Pakistan’s Peshawar, saying that the government would enhance security for the diplomatic community.

A U.S. woman diplomat escaped unhurt in the firing in Peshawar, capital of North West Frontier Province of Pakistan, on Tuesday.

The assailants opened fire at the car of U.S. Consulate Peshawar Principal Officer Lynne Tracy, who was on the way to her office, reports said.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns the incident of firing on a vehicle of the U.S. Consulate in Peshawar,” according to a press release.

“The Government is committed to ensuring all possible measures for the security of the diplomatic community, ” it added.

The foreign ministry said the incident is being investigated and steps for enhanced security have been taken.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
