Baghdad : A suicide bomber blew himself up near a gathering of police recruits in northeasten Iraq, killing ten recruits and wounding 20 others, the police said.
A suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest struck police recruits lining up outside a police station in Jalawlaa town in Diyala province, some 150 km northeast of Baghdad, a provincial police official said on condition of anonymity.
The attacker arrived at the site in his car and was stopped by the police, the source said, adding that the man then jumped from his car and ran into the crowd where he blew himself up.
Diyala has long been a stronghold for Al Qaida militants despite ongoing security crackdown conducted by US-backed Iraqi security forces.
