Hill council elections in Kargil Saturday

Srinagar : Elections to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil are to be held Saturday.

For smooth conduct of elections for the LAHDC Kargil, as many as 892 polling staff and more than 1,000 police personnel including para military forces have been deployed in Kargil district.

District development commissioner Kargil, Satesh Nehru chaired a meeting of the zonal magistrates and sector officers at district headquarters to review the overall arrangements for the elections.

According to a government release, the deputy commissioner, Kargil, Satesh Nehru and the senior superintendent of police, Garib Dass said 223 polling stations for 24 council constituencies had been set up for an electorate of 83,883 in the district.

“Of the total polling stations, 24 have been identified as hyper sensitive and 36 as sensitive,” the statement said.

The zonal magistrates and sector officers have been asked to submit situation reports after every two hours to the district administration on the day of polling Saturday.
