Islamabad : Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) chief Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao announced to support coalition candidate Asif Ali Zardari for election to the office of the President.
“Our party will vote for Asif Ali Zardari on September 6,” Aftab Sherpao announced in a press conference; along with PPP MNA Faryal Talpur, here at his house here Saturday evening.
He said as per democratic conventions it was right of the PPP to field its presidential candidate because it has secured heavy public mandate in the February 18 general elections.
“I am follower of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and have close ideological understanding with the PPP, therefore, I do not foresee any difficulty in working with it,” he observed.
The former minister said he has put forward some recommendations including; reorganizing Pak-Afghan Jirga, ensuring provincial autonomy and improve the law and order situation, before the PPP leadership.
In reply to a question, Sherpao said neither National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was under his authority during his tenure as minister for interior in the previous government nor had any case against Asif Ali Zardari been filed during his tenure as minister.
Speaking on the occasion, PPP MNA Faryal Talpur thanked Aftab Ahmed Sherpao for his support and assured that PPP led coalition government would act upon the recommendations presented by the PPP-S.
“We believe in politics of national reconciliation, so negotiations with all democratic forces will continue,” she said.
