Andhra Pradesh assembly session begins amid tight security

By IANS,

Hyderabad : The winter session of the Andhra Pradesh state legislative assembly began Monday amid massive security arrangements.

The assembly building turned into a virtual fortress with 1,400 security personnel deployed in the wake of last week’s terror attacks in Mumbai.

Quick response teams and special strike force were also deployed as a precautionary measure and bomb disposal squads were pressed into service to sanitise the premises.

The police said this was part of the tight security arrangements made at all vital installations across the state after the Mumbai attacks.

The house passed a unanimous resolution condemning the Mumbai attacks.

The house also condoled the death of former prime minister V.P. Singh, and recalled his services to the nation.

The assembly was later adjourned for the day. It is likely to be the last session of the present assembly as the elections are scheduled to be held in March-April next year.

The five-day session is likely to discuss the security measures required to be taken in the wake of Mumbai attacks. The opposition parties will raise the demand for tightening the security, especially along the coastline, its leaders said.

The government is likely to announce formation of a special force on the lines of National Security Guard (NSG) to deal with terrorist attacks.
