New Delhi : The ruling Congress party Monday said a strong message needs to be sent to Pakistan since it has been proved that the terrorists who attacked Mumbai had come from Pakistan.
“We have no doubt that a firm message needs to be sent to Pakistan. The terrorists had come from Pakistani soil. However the issue need to be deliberated sensitively,” said Jayanti Natarajan, Congress spokesperson.
At least 183 people, including 22 foreign nationals, were killed in the terror attacks on India’s financial capital, which started Wednesday night and continued for almost 60 hours.
On the resignation of former home minister Shivraj Patil following the Mumbai attack, the Congress spokesperson said: “The Congress Working Committee (CWC) believes in the accountability of public offices and the resignation of the home minister is in accordance with it.”
On Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi attending a function on the night on Nov 29, hours after the terror attack in Mumbai got over, Natarajan said it was misrepresented in the press.
“After attending four public meetings during the Rajasthan election campaign, Rahul Gandhi attended the CWC meeting. After the CWC meeting he attended a family function – an engagement ceremony of his childhood friend – and this has been misrepresented in some sections of the media,” Natarajan said.
On the public demonstrations against politicians after the terror attack, Natarajan said: “The anger and outrage of the people can be understood, but it is a time to stand together in sympathy for all those who lost their life and fight terrorism and not to create hostility towards the political class.”
