The team, comprising six officials, was set up Saturday evening following the 27/11 strike that rocked Mumbai and left at least 183 people dead. It is headed by Jamnagar’s Local Crime Branch police sub-inspector Mahavir Singh Rana.

“After the Kutch coastal line, Jamnagar is the second biggest and we are worried about a possible threat,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajendra V. Jotangiya told IANS.

He said the six-man team is equipped with AK47 rifles, bullet-proof jackets and other anti-terror gear. Also, a special government Gypsy has been provided to the team, which will be available 24×7 at Jamnagar’s police headquarters.

The team will be alerted to check public places, coastal areas and vehicles on the highway.

Jotangiya said the team may not stand a chance if 10 terrorists come with their guns blazing. There is a need to add more officials to the team besides boosting their morale.

“Lot needs to be done in improving the morale of the police force through modernisation and this is our challenge,” he said, adding: “Our plan is to select ‘good men’ for the job.”
