Jordan, EU launch project on fighting terrorism, organized crime

Amman : Jordan and the European Union (EU) Wednesday launched a project to boost the kingdom’s efficiency in fighting terrorism and organized crime.

The project, known as Jordan-Euro Anti-Terrorism and Combating Organized Crime Partnership, eyes to bolster skills of Jordanian security personnel in detonators management and homicide fields, Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Suheir Al-Ali said on the signing ceremony.

According to the European Commission (EC), the EU-funded project is the first of counter-terrorist kind the organization has launched in Jordan.

Jordan’s Public Security Department chief Mazen Qadi, who also attended the ceremony, highlighted the importance of global cooperation in anti-terrorism as high-tech innovations drastically improved tools of organized crime and terrorism.

Head of the EC delegation to Jordan Patrick Renaud said the pact is a vital means to achieve necessary progress on exchanging information among experts in security fields.
