Kolkata : Mamata Banerjee, chief of West Bengal’s principal opposition Trinamool Congress, Saturday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the Raj Bhawan during his visit here.
“We discussed issues like the (ruling) Communist Party of India-Marxist supported police atrocities on the tribal community at Lalgarh and demanded centre’s intervention in these issues,” Banerjee told reporters after emerging from the meeting.
A seven-member team headed by Banerjee came to the governor’s house at 7.15 pm. The meeting lasted for around half-an-hour.
“Besides these issues we also told the prime minister about the state sponsored terrorism in Nandigram. Yesterday (Friday) one of our woman activists was assaulted by CPI-M cadres in Nandigram”, she added.
