Thousands arrested in TMMK’s rail roko agitation

New Delhi: On the occasion of 16th Anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) organized Rail Roko agitation in several parts of the sate including Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore Railway Station. According to TMMK, more than 50,000 men and women courted arrest in this occasion.

Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam has since its inception in 1995 organized various forms of agitations on the anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid. This year the rail roko agitations were organized at 48 railway stations in the state to highlight the lethargic attitude of the central government in dealing with the various facets of the Babri Masjid issue.

The criminal case filed against LK Advani, Murali mmanohar Joshi, Bal Thackeray, Ashok Singhal, Uma Bharati, Vinay Katiyar and their cohorts is pending before a court in Uttar Pradesh for the last 16 years.

The Liberhan Commission which was constituted to enquire about the demolition of Babri Masjid has consumed a whopping 800 lakh Rupees, yet it gets only further extensions and grants.

TMMK said that the rail roko programme was organized to highlight the following demands-

1. Reconstruction of Babari Masjid as promised by then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao at the very spot where it stood for 425 years.

2. Cancellation of Bail and expeditious trial and punishment in the Babri Masjid demolition case involving Advani and company.

3. Submission of the Liberhan Commission report without any further extension and delay.

4. To constitute an independent enquiry on all the terror events that has taken place in India right from the Parliament attack on December 13, 2001. This enquiry should be monitored by a committee consisting of a Supreme Court Judge and the Chairmans of National Human Rights Commission, National Minority Commission and the National SC / ST Commission.

Prof. Dr.M.H. Jawahirullah, President of Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam led the agitation in Chennai Egmore, Mr. S. Hyder Ali, General Secretary of Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam led the agitation in Virudachalam, Mr.O.U. Rahamathulla led the agitation in Chennai Central Railway Stations. Agitations in several railway stations were led by various state office bearers of Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam. However in the flood affected Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai and Karaikal Districts, demonstrations were conducted in front of Central Govt Offices.
