Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) : Seven people, including an infant and a woman police officer, were killed in a road accident Sunday, a police officer said.
Junior police officer Uma Maheshwari, the six-month-old child and five of her other relatives were killed near the Kerala border, 25 km south of Coimbatore.
The accident occurred when a station-wagon carrying the family collided with a lorry, killing its members including the officer’s husband on the spot, police officer added. The lorry driver has been arrested.
Also, 22-year-old Revathy was critically injured and admitted to a government hospital.
According to sources, the family was on its way to a Hindu temple in Guruvayur, Kerala, for a ritual entailing introduction of rice into the child’s diet.
