John McCain was talking to media persons here on Saturday before leaving Islamabad after a day-long visit to Pakistan. Senators Joe Lieberman and Lindsay O. Graham were also part of the US delegation.

Senator McCain said main objective of the culprits behind the Mumbai terror attacks was to hinder the peace process between Pakistan and India.

“One of the major goals of the outrageous attacks was to reverse the trend… and the progress that has been made in the Indian and Pakistani relations”, he said.

Senator McCain said if Pakistan-India relations are worsened, then the attackers would be succeeded in the goal they set for the attack.

“If the terrorists succeed in confounding relations between these two great countries, they will achieve their aim”, he said, adding, “We cannot let that happen.”

Senator Lindsay O. Graham said any action should be taken on the basis of evidence and not on political speculation.
