Lucknow : A policeman killed himself with his service rifle in Uttar Pradesh, the police said Sunday.
Vijay Bahadur Yadav, who was deputed as the shadow of additional superintendent of police (Khadda) Harpal Singh, shot himself with the .303 rifle late Saturday night in the Kushinagar district, about 350 km from here.
“We were on a round of the rural outskirts. Yadav went towards the sugar mill and shot himself,” Singh said.
He said due to the heavy noise of the sugar mill equipments, the gun shot was not heard and Yadav’s body was recovered Sunday morning.
An aide close to Yadav said he had taken a loan of Rs.300,000 and was tense over its repayment. Also, his son was sacked in the recent retrenchments by the Uttar Pradesh police.
Nearly 12,000 under-training cops were terminated when a scandal over police recruitment was unearthed last year.
