Two killed in China earthquake

Chengdu : Two people were killed and three injured in a 5.0-magnitude earthquake that shook southwest China’s Sichuan province early Wednesday, authorities said Thursday.

Two miners working in a coal mine in Guangyuan city were crushed to death when a portion of the shaft collapsed on the impact of the quake, said Jia Quande, an official with the city’s emergency management office.

In Lizhou district, three residents were injured as they fled their homes, he said.

Sichuan province and the neighbouring areas were devastated in an 8.0 magnitude quake May 12 which killed some 70,000 people and affected four million people.
