First Arab Human Rights Conference concludes in Doha

Doha : The First Arab Human Rights Conference in its closing session here has called on the Arab countries to join international and regional pacts on human rights particularly the Arab Charter for human rights as well as to work for supporting dealing with mechanisms of international and regional human rights.

The conference Monday urged the Arab League to approve a draft of the strategic action plan on enhancement and protection of human rights and follow up its implementation through active and efficient framework.

The conference stressed the need to hold inter-Arab and international dialogues on the obstacles that prevent activation of positive commitment to the international measures of human rights.

The conference also called for adopting joint national and regional ways between the national authorities, civil society organisations, the Arab League for promotion, protection and enhancement of human rights.

The conference urged the Arab countries which have not established national human rights institutions to quickly set up these institutions in accordance with international measures.

The conference called for enhancing the free media role, monitoring of human rights situation and promotion of human rights culture.

The conference called on the Arab League to hold an annual human rights conference and to observe the Arab Human Rights Day on March 16 each year.
