“Our team would be flying to US in next two days to get custody of Raghbir Singh Virk arrested by the US Customs and Border Protection in October,” a senior CBI official told IANS.

“Interpol notice was issued against him for his involvement in cases of forgery, counterfeiting and fraud in India,” the official added. The notice was issued against him in May 2007.

Virk, 64, was arrested at the Sweetgrass Port Of Entry by the US Customs and Border Protection officers during a routine inspection of drivers Oct 22.

Virk, a resident of Punjab, was transported to the Cascade County Detention Centre in Great Falls where he will be held in custody.

The CBI officer said the accused would not be taken to India through the process of extradition.

“Virk himself said before the US authorities that he wishes to return to India and face trial here. He would be brought to a Delhi court,” said the official.
