Islamabad, Dec 18, IRNA, Pakistan on Thursday summoned deputy Indian envoy to the Foreign Ministry and lodged a protest over violation of its airspace by Indian aircraft, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Thursday.
The Spokesman stated that the Indian deputy high commissioner was called in the Foreign Office and a diplomatic note was handed over to him, conveying the concern of the Government of Pakistan on technical and air space violations by Indian aircraft on 12 and 13 December 2008 in non-conformity with the 1991 Agreement between Pakistan and India on Prevention of Air Space Violations.
Pakistan Air Force spokesman Hamayun Waqar says that Indian planes violated Pakistan’s airspace on Saturday in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and over the eastern city of Lahore but were forced by Pakistani fighter jets to retreat.
The violation happened amid heightened tensions between the two countries over last month’s deadly attack in the Indian commercial center of Mumbai.
India alleges that the attacks, which left more than 170 people dead, had been organized in Pakistan.
Pakistan Air Commodore Hamayun Vaqar said the Indian aircraft crossed over the border some four kilometers both sectors.
President Asif Ali Zardari said on Sunday that the Indian aircraft had made a technical mistake while flying over altitude of some 50,000 feet.
India has denied any violation of Pakistan’s airspace.
