Mohali : England skipper Kevin Pietersen said he is confident of bouncing back in the series against India without changing their gameplan in the second Test, starting here Friday.
Pietersen said the team had put up a strong fight in Chennai and there was no reason for them to change their approach.
“The present England team is a fantastic side and there is nothing wrong in our approach. We are not going to make any big change in our strategy. In the first Test match at Chennai our team played extremely well,” Pietersen said Thursday.
“The defeat in Chennai was a learning experience, anyhow we have to move ahead. We are looking forward to play well here,” he said.
Pietersen, who played with a rib injury in Chennai, said he is fully fit. He suffered the injury while playing in the One-day series against India. “It is a minor rib injury and nothing serious. I have no problems and looking forward to the match.”
Asked whether they have strategy to tackle Virender Sehwag, who set the chase for India with a blistering knock, Pietersen said: “we have no special strategy for Sehwag and Gambhir, who are playing really well. In fact, just getting the wicket of one or two batsmen does not guarantee anything. India have a long batting line up with some world-class players,” said Pietersen.
Pietersen backed Monty Panesar, whose lack of form on the spinner-friendly Chennai track was criticised.
“Monty is a good spinner and he is learning fast. He performed well in the last match. He has all the abilities of a good spinner.”
