Rahul Gandhi makes surprise visit to Amethi

Lucknow, Dec 18(IANS) Congress general secretary and MP from Amethi Rahul Gandhi Thursday reached his constituency on a surprise two-day visit, party sources said.

“On the first day, Gandhi visited a couple of villages and met villagers there,” state congress spokesperson A.P. Singh told IANS.

However, Gandhi eluded the media and promised to talk to scribes Friday.

“Gandhi also held a closed-door meeting with local Congress workers and office-bearers in Jagdishpur and urged them to increase the party’s presence in their region to a revolutionary share,” an office-bearer who attended the meeting told IANS on condition of anonymity.

Gandhi said after so many reforms by the United Progressive Alliance government, the party expects that the vote share of the Congress should not be dismal like in the past couple of Lok Sabha elections, said the office-bearer.

On Friday, Gandhi will attend another closed-door meeting with the Central Vigilance and Monitoring Committee in Sultanpur, and visit some more villages.
