Maoist threat to Bhilai steel plant officials?

Raipur : Panic has gripped the Bhilai Steel Plant – the flagship unit of the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) – in Chhattisgarh after small posters were found inside its high-security compound threatening to kill its officials, it was announced Friday.

The plant management late Thursday found three posters pasted inside the plant, which is India’s largest public sector steel plant. It is located in Bhilai, 30 km west from here.

In the posters, the Maoists have threatened to kill some plant officials if “workers were not treated properly during the next wage revision”, plant officials said.

The posters were found close to the canteen area of the foundry shop, the blooming and billet mill and the roll turning shop.

The Bhilai Steel Plant is India’s largest public sector steel plant. During 2007-08, it achieved the best ever annual production of 5.268 MT hot metal, 5.054 MT crude steel and 4.427 MT saleable steel.
