New Delhi : The government is setting up a Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) to promote basic research work in science and engineering, the Lok Sabha was informed Tuesday.
The SERB will be an autonomous body and a bill in this regard was passed by the Lok Sabha Dec 19, Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal told the Lok Sabha.
“SERB is being set up for promoting basic research in science and engineering and to provide financial assistance to scientists, academic institutions, research and development laboratories, industrial concerns and other agencies for such research,” Sibal said.
It will be chaired by the secretary in the science and technology department and will have other senior government functionaries and eminent scientists from different fields as members.
