New Delhi : Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Thursday commissioned its second refinery in Gujarat, which has a capacity to process 580,000 barrels of oil per day.
Announcing the launch, Reliance Petroleum, a subsidiary of RIL, said the entire refinery complex at Gujarat’s Jamnagar will attain full capacity shortly. “The secondary processing units are now under synchronization and commissioning,” said a company press release.
“With the completion of the RPL refinery, Jamnagar has emerged as the refining hub of the world with the largest refining complex with an aggregate refining capacity of 1.24 million barrels of oil per day in any single location in the world,” it added.
It took about 36 months to complete the entire project since it was conceived.
RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani said they were committed to the long term potential of the refining sector.
“We will leverage our competitive advantages of scale, complexity and capability to process a wide range of crude oils and flexibility to produce high quality transportation fuels and create significant value for all its stakeholders,” said Ambani.
The company said the strategic location of the complex was chosen for its proximity to the Middle-east, which is the largest crude oil producing region in the world.
