Drug haul worth Rs.500 mn near Punjab town

Phagwara (Punjab) : Two people, including a woman, were arrested Friday for carrying 50 kg heroin worth Rs.500 million here, police said.

The drug, packed in two bags of 25 kg each, was recovered from Harpal Singh and his sister Lakhwinder Kaur, Jalandhar Deputy Inspector General of Police Narinder Pal Singh said.

He said they were taking the consignment from Ludhiana to Amritsar in a Toyota Qualis when the vehicle was intercepted by the police following intelligence inputs.

The main suspect in the racket, Surinder Pal of Delhi, is absconding.

Singh said the drugs had come into India from Pakistan through the Jammu and Kashmir border.
