Tanjungpinang : The government of Malaysia deported around 34,595 illegal migrant workers from Indonesia by dropping them at Sri Bintan Pura port of Tanjungpinang city, the capital of Riau islands province on Saturday.
“Those illegal workers are deported to their home country by Malaysia through Pasir Gudang Port of that country and then dropped them at Sri Bintan Pura port,” the head of the border immigration office, Ispaisah, said here on Saturday.
Illegal workers evicted from that neighboring country to Indonesia in 2008 consisted of 24,838 men, 9,194 women and 473 children.
On average, the Malaysian government repatriated Indonesian illegals through the nearest post three times a week, Ispaisah said, adding that generally the number of illegal migrant workers deported each month was about 3,000.
An exodus return of illegal migrant workers to Indonesia often happened in a few days before the fasting month of Ramadhan and Idul Fitri Islamic holidays.
“Malaysia will reportedly deport some Indonesian illegals on December 29, 2008,” he said, thus predicting that thousands of Indonesian illegals are to be evicted in the future.
The illegals captured by Malaysian government are proven to have no any complete documents as foreign workers in that neighboring country. However, they have to serve their jail sentence before being evicted from that neighboring country.
