Islamabad : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Saturday said that Pakistan doesn’t want war with India and that “we will only react” if a conflict is imposed on us.
“We don’t want to have aggression with our neighbours. We want to have friendly relations with our neighbours,” the state-owned Pakistan TV (PTV) quoted him as saying.
“I assure you once again that we will not act. We will only react,” he said at a prayer meeting in memory of slain former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
Relations between India and Pakistan have deteriorated after the last month’s terrorist attacks in Mumbai that killed over 170 people. India has blamed Pakistani terrorists for the mayhem.
“We will not be the people who will be the first to take any sort of misadventurism but at the same time we are capable of defending our own dear country,” Gilani said.
Gilani said “common friends” of Pakistan and India were engaged in diplomatic efforts to defuse tension between the two countries.
