Two men shot dead by police in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow : Two men, wanted for the murder of three traders in Baghpat this month, were killed in a shootout with the police Saturday afternoon, officials said.

“The police have also arrested five other criminals after an ambush,” Uttar Pradesh police chief Vikram Singh told reporters here.

The slain men, identified as Veeru and Rajesh, carried a cash reward of Rs.20,000 each on their heads, he said.

Three businessmen were killed and six were injured when a gang of criminals opened indiscriminate fire in the Thatheri Mandi market in Baghpat Dec 10. Eleven policemen were suspended after the incident.

“The gang’s kingpin, Kaalu, who also carried a similar reward, was killed by the Noida police in a gun battle Dec 17,” Singh added.

“Those arrested in connection with the incident have been identified as Gulab, Sonu, Mahavir, Shushil and Bholoo and we are interrogating them,” the police chief said.
