Delhi Metro spokesman Anuj Dayal identified the victim as Ram Prakash, employed with Freyssinet Pre Stressing Company (FPCC) – a sub-contractor under Gammon India Limited.

“Prima facie it appears that the worker was careless and slipped while climbing down the ladder around 4.00 a.m.” he said.

The accident occurred at Lajpat Nagar in south Delhi, on the under-construction Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor of the Delhi Metro. Ram Prakash was rushed to the Moolchand Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Dayal said the chief project manager was conducting an enquiry into the accident.

Delhi Metro construction sites have witnessed a number of fatal accidents this year.
