One student killed, 13 injured as truck runs into classroom

Nagpur : A 14-year-old student was killed and 13 others were injured when a speeding truck rammed into a school classroom in a crowded city area Tuesday, a police official said.

The accident occurred shortly after noon when the truck driver lost control over the vehicle and crashed into a classroom of Prakash Agriculture School in east Nagpur’s Pardi locality, according to the official.

The truck carrying sand crashed into the classroom through its side-wall and ran over the students sitting in the block adjacent to it.

A student, Badal Meshram, died and at least two other students were critically injured as they were trapped under the overturned vehicle for quite sometime, the police official said, adding that eleven other students were also injured.

Irate residents of the locality resorted to road blockade and pelted stones at a police squad that visited the spot, forcing the police to cane-charge the crowd.
