New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday denied that it had hired a private agency to inquire into the reported missing of Rs.26 million from its headquarters on Christmas day and maintained that it was reconciling its accounts.

“Reconciliation of the accounts is still going on. After completing it, we will verify with our accountants and then inform the media,” party treasurer Ramdas Agarwal told reporters.

There is no investigation by any private detective agency, he said.

“I was not in Delhi. Somebody informed the agency after the reports that money was missing from the office. The agency people locked the room and later I opened it after I returned,” Agarwal added.

Meanwhile, the Congress taunted the BJP and asked whether the money was part of the cash that was shown during the trust vote in parliament July.

“We need to find out whether it was part of the money shown in the Lok Sabha during the trust vote. And whether the missing gaps in the (BJP’s) accounts are for future dramatic display,” Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.
