Australia scores eighth Twenty20 win, first against India

Melbourne : Australia’s eighth win in 14 Twenty20 internationals here Friday was also their first in three games over India. Pakistan and South Africa have also registered eight wins each.

Australia had lost both their previous games against India. They lost by 15 runs at Durban Sep 22 and by seven wickets in Mumbai Oct 20, both matches were played last year.

India’s nine-wicket loss in Friday’s one-off Twenty20 international is their biggest defeat in 10 games. India’s previous defeat was by 10 runs to New Zealand in Johannesburg Sep 16 last year.

India’s 74 is the lowest ever score by a Test-playing country, eclipsing Australia’s 79 against England at Southampton in 2005.

Their small total is the second lowest in Twenty 20 internationals, next only to Kenya’s 73 against New Zealand in Durban Sep 12.

This is the fourth shortest result-oriented game in terms of overs – in just 28.5 overs. The other shortest games have been South Africa vs. West Indies (22.5 overs) in Port Elizabeth in December, Kenya vs. New Zealand (24.3 overs) in Durban in September and New Zealand vs. Sri Lanka (25.5 overs) in Wellington in December 2006.
