Tel Aviv : A group of six armed men opened fire on the Israeli Embassy in Nouakchott, capital of Mauritania, on Friday, one of the north African countries that has relations with Tel Aviv.
The Israeli ambassador to Mauritania, Boaz Bismut, said no embassy employees were hurt in the early Friday morning attack.
Security guards at the embassy engaged in a battle with the armed men who were firing from a nearby disco, and who left the area in a car.
Mauritania, Egypt and Jordan are the only Arab States that have relations with Israel.
The Israeli ambassador, Boaz Bismut, told Israel Radio that the shooting attack followed furious protests this week over Israel’s policies in the Gaza Strip.
Israel has been restricting deliveries of gas and other supplies to the Palestinian territory.
